So Job died, being old and full of days.
Job 42:17

So God redeems Job. Satan was wrong, Job stayed loyal and faithful throughout all his tribulations, and is rewarded with the usual gifts of the time, fourteen thousand sheep, and six thousand camels, and a thousand yoke of oxen, and a thousand she asses...seven sons and three daughters.1

Thus ends the most peculiar, drawn out, and for many (including this writer) the least interesting of the books of the Old Testament. There is little in the book of Job to learn from. He was blessed. He lost everything. He sulked, he argued, he berated God. He got it all back tenfold. He didn't actually do anything. He put in no effort to improve his life, just sat around waiting for God to do it for him, as if he had a right. Gosh! This is the kind of entitlement we see today in our self-centered, consumer society. People acting as if the world owes them a living. Job is no role model for today's world. I prefer to look elsewhere in the Bible for stories and characters to learn from. So, onward to Psalms...
