"A long habit of not thinking a thing wrong, gives it a superficial appearance of being right, and raises at first a formidable outcry in defense of custom. But the tumult soon subsides. Time makes more converts than reason." — Thomas Paine, Common Sense

The People's Scrum Dialogs are free, ninety-minute conversations, each centered on one of the chapters from the book of the same name, published in 2013 with an audio version released in 2020. Learn more, read and listen here: The People's Scrum.

Description

"Scrum is a framework for developing, delivering, and sustaining complex products...it functions well as a container for other techniques, methodologies, and practices." The Scrum Guide, 2017

The People's Scrum Dialogs occur on an ad hoc series of conversations, guest talks and interviews to explore the possibilities of scrum. Occurring roughly once a month, the events encourage participant engagement through small breakout conversations, and general question and response

The Next Dialog

Scrum Roles: An Abstraction
What's in a name? Are the scrum roles named effectively? Does it matter? What is the true nature of the roles—and no, they are nothing like existing corporate roles. Each one is a confrontation to business as usual.

Publisher's Note

"The People's Scrum is a collection of essays written during 2005-2012, missives from the front lines of agile practice that represent the next generation of thinking on conventional agile topics like self-organization, technical debt and estimation—and utterly original writing on new topics like organizational anarchy, corporate oppression, the effect of testosterone on business practices, and artisanal product development. Moving beyond the mere how-to, this is a book to excite the emotions and the intellect in those of us who have chosen the path of scrum to guide us in our work lives. Not since Paul Graham's Hackers and Painters has the discussion of software development been elevated to this level of world-view-changing discourse."

Facilitation

Tobias Mayer hosts and facilitates these dialogs, seeding the conversations but participating minimally. The learning emerges from the experiences and ideas of the participants.
